If you determine the amount of study undertaken according to the level of activity generated on this site, then it may appear that I have not achieved a whole lot in the last couple of weeks....watching movies is totally research!
I also conducted an interview with industry big wig Tony Ginnane. I have referenced Ginnane in a response to Mary Colbert's Sun Herald article "Australian Quality vs Box Office Returns for Australian Films", under the MARKETING header of this site. Look out for the transcript of the interview. I have also been in contact with Robyn Kershaw (Bran Nue Dae, Looking for Alibrandi) and documentary guru Susan MacKinnon (The Company of Actors, The Oasis).
The notes from my research should be up, hopefully today.
The opening of the Australian Film Festival was on Wednesday night. Supported by Popcorn Taxi and held at the Randwick Ritz, Mad Max was back on the big screen for one night only. Having not been born when Mad Max was released I relished at the opportunity to experience it in all its glory. I was impressed! Following the film was a Q&A with some of the cast and crew who were a part of bringing the film to fruition. Joining the Toecutter, Hugh Keays-Byrne, was Joanne Samuel, Steve Bisley and Roger Ward amongst others, answering questions from beloved fans and film industry enthusiasts. The audience was given an insight into the documentary being made about the Madness of Mad Max. Find more info at madmaxonline.com. It was a great night and well worth supporting the inaugural Australian Film Festival. Check out more about the Festival at australianfilmfestival.com.au.
Oh and all those who enjoyed the fabulous weather on Sunday night would have had a lovely Tropfest. Not sure about the quality of the films but winner Abe Forsythe, Shock, could not have been more ecstatic. Congrats Abe.
